So what is a .par file anyways?
A par (parity) file creates redundant data that can be used later in case parts of the original data are lost or corrupted. Out of a group of many files, if a limited number of files are lost or corrupted, they can be recovered. You can think of a parity file as a partial backup that can repair or replace a limited number of files.
